Ha’oom Fisheries Society is offering several workshops for Five Nations fishers this year. We encourage all fishers to take advantage of these opportunities. Please let us know if there are other workshops you would like to see. Click on an image below to go directly to that workshop or scroll down to see all of the opportunities.
BOAT MAINTENANCE WORKSHOP
Five Nations fishers invest lots of money in their boats. Learning basic boat maintenance practices can avoid costly repairs and keep your boat running well for many years.
During the boat maintenance training, the instructor will demonstrate how to carry out basic maintenance and servicing on your boat. Also covered will be the most common causes of breakdowns at sea, how to avoid them, and what emergency items to take onboard in the event of an emergency! This workshop will be hands on – on your boat. If you do not have a boat, you can do the training on the instructor’s boat.
Where: The workshop will be organized in Tofino, Ahousaht, Port Alberni, Zeballos, and Gold River.
When: Tofino May 18 & 19, Ahousaht May 25 & 26, Port Alberni May 29, Gold River May 30 & 31, and Zeballos June 1.
Who can attend: This workshop is open to all registered five Nations fishers. The training is aimed for fishers with little mechanical knowledge but with an interest in taking a more active part in the upkeep of their engines.
How much: This program is free!
